Cetaceans of Azores / Cetáceos dos Açores

         The Azores is an archipielago of 9 islands with a unique environment, biodiversity and human culture in an awesome landscape. The Azores islands are a hotspot for cetaceans and biodiversity in general.
         The Department of Oceanography and Fisheries of the University of the Azores http://www.horta.uac.pt/ is located in Horta (Faial). This department conduct many different research projects and is also in charge of the POPA Programa para a Observaçao das Pescas dos Açores.http://www.horta.uac.pt/projectos/popa/index_PT.html 

         27 different species of cetaceans can be spotted in the Azores and there is a valuable information  provided by Department of Oceanography and Fisheries of the University of the Azores and other institutions.
